How do we live out the Resurrection in our daily lives? In his Easter homily, Fr. Steven spoke deeply to the heart of our faith – encountering the Risen Lord at home and in our everyday moments. These key quotes capture the heart of his message.
On the Darkness of Our Times
We live in difficult times – we often do find ourselves in darkness. The Gospels tell us that as Jesus hung on the cross, though it was midday, darkness beset the whole land. Good Friday speaks of the darkness of godlessness, hatred, paranoia, fear, misguided religion, cruelty, idolatry, ideology, and violence.
The Staggering Light
God’s response to the darkness of Good Friday was to say again: Let there be light! The resurrection of Jesus is that new light!
The resurrection of Jesus has brought a new light into the world, one that proclaims against all counter claims that light still triumphs over darkness, love over hatred, life over death.
The Challenge of Resurrection Faith
The challenge of Resurrection faith – is not just to believe that Jesus rose physically from the tomb! The challenge of the Resurrection of Jesus is also to live with biblical hope.
Encountering the Risen Lord
The angel and then Jesus himself instructs the women to tell the disciples to go to Galilee where they will see Him. To go to Galilee their home place, where he called them.
There they will experience the Risen Lord, in their lives, at home, in their ordinary days. May we too experience in our days the power and presence of the Risen Lord.
Learning to Live Again and Again
We pray that in these Easter days that we may learn again that God is always making new life and life new and undergirding it with a goodness, mercy and love that can bring all sorts of deadness to new life in us.
May our Easter celebration this year bring the light of the Risen Lord to us and teach us not only how to live, but how to live again and again and again and again in His power and presence.
